Timid Trumpet

I often find Trumpetfish oriented vertically, hiding in soft coral amidst the reef. They are stealthy, waiting to ambush tasty shrimps and other small fish or invertebrates. Their color changes as they camouflage into their surroundings, and their presence on a reef is an indicator of a healthy ecosystem. 

All of my aquatic art begins as a sketch made underwater while I scuba dive. Upon the conclusion of the dive, I bring my sketches to the surface and separately paint the scenes which unfolded on the reef.
